The benefits of spending time in nature are well documented. It enhances our state of being, our humanity -- even as life gets more hectic and disconnected from our natural environment.

That's why Mazda has partnered with ParticipACTION to encourage all of us to spend time in nature. For the month of August, we challenge everyone to spend as many 50-minute sessions in nature as possible every week -- as a transformative experience.

To take part in the challenge, download the ParticipACTION app which will track your activity time during August, and automatically enter you in weekly prize draws.1

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

GETTING STARTED

The challenge takes place from August 1 to 31, 2022. You can join the challenge anytime throughout those dates.

The app is available from the Google Play or the App Store.

Anyone can participate in the challenge (though you must be at least 17 years old to enter the contest1

You can join the Challenge from July 18th so you're ready to go when the app starts tracking your active minutes in nature on August 1st, when the Challenge begins.

TRACKING TIME

This app only tracks active minutes. It is up to you to make sure you do your part in nature -- to feel all the benefits it provides. Your active minutes will be recorded automatically with a fitness tracker or by self-reporting within the app.

The ParticipACTION app connects to Garmin, Fitbit, and Apple Watch devices to allow for your active nature time to be automatically logged and counted towards your goal. You can also easily sync your account to your Google Fit or Apple Health apps, too.

CONTEST & PRIZING 1

Prizes will be gift cards of increasing value from outdoor gear and outfitting brands such as Sporting Life and Atmosphere, with two grand prizes worth $5,000 from MEC. All prizes will be awarded by ParticipACTION at the end of the challenge.

To win prizes, you must be a Canadian resident, at least 17 years of age, and have answered a skill-testing question correctly. In addition, your user profile must be complete with your first name, age and postal code. In the event that a winner is below the age of majority in their jurisdiction of residence, the potential winner's parent or legal guardian will need to approve the release of the winner's prize.

Yes, each recorded 50 active minutes spent in nature enters you into that week's prize draw, and grand prize draw, regardless of when you join.

Great news! As long as you're tracking towards reaching your 50-minute sessions in nature each week, there's a chance your name may be drawn in the overall grand prize draw and each weekly prize draw. However, you are only eligible for winning once per prize draw (5 draws in total).
